Rui’an, located on the southeast coast of Zhejiang Province, between the Shanghai Economic Zone and the Xiamen Zhangzhou Quanzhou Golden Triangle, is the center of the southern wing of the Wenzhou metropolitan area. As the main birthplace of the “Wenzhou Model”, Rui’an has a flexible market mechanism and a developed private economy, forming six pillar industries including automotive and motorcycle parts, machinery and electronics, plastic products, footwear, fine chemicals, textiles and clothing. A large number of famous products enjoy a high reputation at home and abroad, and 19 products occupy more than 50% of the national market share. It is a national level automotive and motorcycle parts production base, plastic film industry base, printing and packaging and pharmaceutical machinery national production and sales base, and a nationally renowned fine chemical production base, forming a strong competitive industry scale advantage and industrial supporting advantage.
In October 2003, the China Machinery Industry Federation awarded Rui’an City the title of “Capital of Automobile and Motorcycle Parts in China”.
The automobile and motorcycle parts industry in Wenzhou started in the 1960s and 1970s, initially developed from the centralized production of automobile and motorcycle gaskets and other accessories using simple lathes in the Tangxia area of Rui’an. The industry has cultivated a group of outstanding entrepreneurs with strategic vision and pioneering spirit, giving rise to a number of large-scale and high-end enterprise groups and backbone enterprises such as Ruiming Group, Shenghuabo Group, Chaoyang Group, and Nanyang Automobile and Motorcycle Group.
At present, there are more than 1400 automobile and motorcycle parts production enterprises in Rui’an, with an output value of about 15 billion yuan in 2005, accounting for 34.3% of the city’s total industrial output value; There are 21 enterprises with over 100 million yuan.
Ruian Automobile and Motorcycle Parts has more than 3000 series of products, with over 100 enterprises supporting more than 60 automobile manufacturers nationwide. More than 120 enterprises have entered the international market with their products, and 9 products have been rated as “Zhejiang Province Famous Brand Products”. 13 trademarks have been awarded the title of “Zhejiang Province Famous Trademark”; There are 2 products that have been exempted from national inspection. There are about 300000 employees, including over 3000 senior talents such as senior engineers, professors, and masters.
The “International Automobile and Motorcycle Parts Industry Park” under construction in Rui’an City is located on the side of National Highway 104 adjacent to Wenzhou and Rui’an, and at the exit of Yongtaiwen Expressway. It is a specialized industrial city mainly focused on automobile and motorcycle parts processing, with a planned total area of 23 square kilometers. The overall construction of the park will be basically completed within 2010, with a total fixed asset investment of over 5 billion yuan and an annual output value of 40 billion yuan for automobiles and motorcycles in Rui’an City.
